Week 2 is about stepping up your work. We are now starting the physical elements. Many of you may be on camp. If you are able to do some goalkeeping on your camp, you may not need to do these technical drills.
The two topics for the week are 1) Handling and footwork and 2) Body shape. The handling and footwork is the same as last week ( important for familiarity and continue the importance of basics) The body shape drills complements the handling and footwork.
The following drills can be done with a friend, family member, a one-on-one session with a Goalkeeper HQ coach or whilst on a goalkeeping camp this week.
At a minimum, do 20 minutes of handling & footwork and 10 minutes of body shape.
TOPIC 1 – Handling & Footwork
TOPIC 2 – Body shape
Goalkeeper stands, facing outwards on one post. On a shout of “Turn” the goalkeeper turns to face the server and saves, ensuring that head, hands and feet are all in line when the save is made.
The serve should only be on the side that the goalkeeper is originally standing.
PROGRESSIONS:
- Do both sides
- Server progresses from serving from hands, volley to kicking from floor.
Whilst you are at the field, ensure you do the sprint activities.
